Road Tripping around Perú using Perú Hop

For the ten days Riley and I travelled throughout Perú, we became “hopsters”: the name our local tour guide dubbed all passengers of the Perú Hop buses.

What is Perú Hop?

Perú Hop is a hop-on/hop-off bus service that caters to tourists hoping to see as much of Perú as possible at their own pace (and on a budget). Along with offering various passes that cater to each tourist's specific interests, you can book excursions through this service as well. This is how we ended up sandboarding in Huacachina and staying with a host family on a remote island on Lake Titicaca.

Our Experience

For the 10 days Riley and I had together, our goal was to see as much of Perú as possible. We purchased the Full South to Cusco travel pass, which allowed us to take as much time as we wanted at each stop. We were able to spend at least one night in Paracas, Huacachina, Arequipa, and Puno.

This specific pass means that you do not have to commit to certain days and times of bus departures; you just have to reserve a spot on the bus you want at least 12 hours before departure. This was the perfect mix of room for flexibility plus the guarantee that we would always have a ride when needed.

Perú Hop has since extended to both Bolivia and Ecuador, and I couldn’t recommend them enough! The local guides were all knowledgeable and full of great recommendations. The ticket included pick up and drop off from all of our hostels, and with all the stresses that can come with travelling, it was always nice to know that we could rely on the buses being there when planned.
